Basseille Classics is proud to present what is undoubtedly one of the finest and most original early BMW 733i E23 currently available in South Africa.
Interestingly, we sold this very vehicle just under two years ago, and we are delighted to once again offer it for sale. During that time, we've kept a close eye on the market and have come to appreciate just how difficult it is to find low-mileage, highly original E23s in this condition. Very few remain untouched, making this a truly unique opportunity to acquire one of the best-preserved examples available.
The E23 marked BMW's first-generation 7 Series and set the benchmark for executive luxury sedans that followed. Combining understated styling, superb build quality and the legendary M30 straight-six engine, the 733i quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest long-distance touring cars of its era.
This particular example is a genuine time capsule.
Having covered just 57,000 km from new, the vehicle has had only two owners, with the long-term custodian owning and cherishing the car since 1980. It has been driven sparingly throughout its life and maintained with an attention to detail seldom seen today.
The interior is nothing short of exceptional. The factory velour upholstery remains beautifully preserved, the dashboard is completely crack-free, and every switch, button and control presents remarkably well. It is immediately apparent that this BMW has spent its life being carefully looked after rather than simply used.
Externally, the car presents just as impressively. Finished in its original white, the paintwork retains a wonderful shine, complemented by professionally refurbished factory wheels. Aside from a few very minor age-related marks consistent with such low mileage, the car presents exceptionally well. It is currently fitted with only its second set of Michelin tyres from new, with plenty of tread life remaining.
Mechanically, the car is exactly what one hopes to find in an original survivor. The engine bay remains clean, factory correct and unmodified. Throughout his ownership, the long-term owner personally carried out the majority of the servicing using only genuine BMW parts, a testament to the care and attention the vehicle has received over the past four decades. Recent maintenance includes a comprehensive service with fresh oils, oil and fuel filters, spark plugs and fan belt, an injector service, replacement of the brake booster together with a full brake inspection, and removal, cleaning and refitting of the fuel tank. As a result, the car starts effortlessly, drives beautifully and performs exactly as one would expect from such a well-preserved example.
Adding to its desirability is an impressive history file, including the original purchase invoice, further confirming the vehicle's provenance and authenticity.
Finding an early E23 in this level of originality and preservation has become exceptionally difficult.
