1961 Fuji Rabbit 200 Superflow
1961 Fuji Rabbit 200 Superflow
A rare and fascinating piece of Japanese motoring history, and certainly not something you are likely to come across every day!
Manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries, the company that would later become synonymous with Subaru, the Fuji Rabbit was one of Japan’s pioneering motor scooters. First introduced in 1946, the Rabbit range became known for its distinctive styling, innovative engineering and comfortable ride, helping establish Japan's post-war scooter industry.
This particular 1961 Fuji Rabbit 200 Superflow is an exceptionally rare find in South Africa. In fact, it is the only example we are currently aware of in the country.
The Superflow was one of the more sophisticated models in the Rabbit range, featuring a 200cc-class two-stroke engine and an innovative automatic transmission system, making it a particularly interesting alternative to the more familiar European scooters of the period.
This example has undergone an extensive rebuild, with considerable time and effort invested in bringing it back to its former glory.
The engine and drivetrain have been completely refurbished using new replacement parts, while the frame, body panels and various other components have been repainted. The result is a beautifully presented vintage scooter that captures the distinctive styling and character of the original Fuji Rabbit.
Although the majority of the restoration work has been completed, there are still a few smaller items and finishing touches required before the project can be considered complete. We are therefore offering the scooter in its current condition, allowing its next custodian to complete the final details.
What makes this particular scooter so appealing is not only its rarity, but also its place in Japanese automotive history. Long before Subaru became a household name in the automotive world, Fuji Heavy Industries was producing these wonderfully engineered little machines.
With so few examples known locally, finding another Fuji Rabbit 200 Superflow in South Africa would be no easy task.
A wonderful opportunity for a vintage scooter enthusiast, Japanese motorcycle collector or someone looking for something genuinely unusual to add to their collection.
Sold as is, with the remaining restoration work to be completed by the purchaser.
